Honoring Granville T. Woods

Granville T. Woods (1856–1910) was an inventor and engineer born in Columbus, Ohio. Largely self-taught, he received more than 50 patents, including the Synchronous Multiplex Railway Telegraph that allowed moving trains to communicate with stations — saving countless lives. His work on electrical railways and the overhead conducting system shaped modern transit. He defended his patents in court and won. Granville reminds us that our ideas have value and deserve protection.
